CALEB BALL

ABOUT CALEB: Caleb Ball is the founder of Pale Horse CrossFit. Caleb has continued education in Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship to go along with his CrossFit Level One Certification. Caleb has been involved in training, competing and coaching his entire life in various ways. Growing up in south west Pennsylvania, Caleb started his 12 year wrestling career at the age of six, followed by competing in baseball, football, and track and field.
As a young adult, Caleb left college and joined the US Army one week after the September 11th attacks on our country. He was assigned to both the 2nd Infantry Division where he completed one tour in Korea and the 101st Airborne Division, completing two combat deployments to Iraq. After 5 years of military service, Caleb started competing in mixed martial arts as a professional hobby. He quickly made a name for himself as a pro MMA fighter competing internationally in the Dominican Republic, Panama, and being showcased on Fox Sports Net Argentina as a main title fight. Caleb holds a professional record of 9-4.

Message from Caleb: Coaching is my passion, and CrossFit has given me a forum to unleash this passion on a large scale. I strive to enhance the athletic capability of my members through CrossFit. My goal is to have a space where members can have fun and inspire each other while obtaining elite health and fitness.

ALANNA

ABOUT ALANNA: Alanna has been a member and coach at Pale Horse CrossFit since June 2015. She began her CrossFit journey in the summer of 2012 and received her L-1 CrossFit certification in August of 2014 in Dallas, TX at CrossFit Strong. Alanna's passion for health and fitness was instilled at a young age through gymnastics, competitive cheerleading, and tennis. Her involvement in team sports instilled the importance of hard work, goal setting, and leadership. She values living a healthy lifestyle through nutrition, movement, and spiritual wellness. Alanna is committed to providing excellent personal training while maintaining trust worthy relationships. Things she values as a CrossFit coach include teaching and instilling correct movement, focusing on personal goals, being committed to the community, and teaching others to live a healthier lifestyle not only in the gym but outside the gym as well. Alanna received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication at College of Charleston in 2013.

CAL

Cal has been a coach at Pale Horse since November 2016. He began CrossFit in March 2016 at CrossFit One Nation in Needham, Massachusetts and quickly caught the bug. With the encouragement of his coaches he received his L-1 that April at Reebok CrossFit One at Reebok Headquarters. He grew up in Chelsea, where his lifelong excitement for sport and fitness began. Throughout his high school career he competed in Football, wrestling, track & field, and lacrosse. He received his bachelor's degree in Movement Science from the University of Michigan in 2015, where he also worked as an intern for the Strength & Conditioning department for the Michigan football team. He believes in CrossFit's mantra to improve health and fitness through constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity, and aims to encourage this by providing attentive coaching and promoting proper movement. His goal is to promote an environment that fosters community, dedication, and resiliency in order to improve physical, mental, and spiritual health.

CLARE

ABOUT CLARE:Clare Burton began coaching at Pale Horse March 2017. Her CrossFit career began in 2015 after she forced her mom to "give it a shot"… then her mom ended up repaying the favor. Clare competed in gymnastics for 10 years before switching to soccer for another 15 years. She is from the mountains of Roanoke, VA and graduated with a BS in Chemistry from Elon University. She moved down to Charleston in 2016 to pursue a Master's in Biomedical Sciences at MUSC, which is how she found herself at Pale Horse. Unbeknownst to most people, she spent a good six months at Pale Horse as a quiet, shy individual whom no one knew existed since she only attended the 5:45am class. Somewhere along the line, she did a 180 and shocked everyone; and she's now the "energetic" one at all odd hours at the gym. Her favorite part about CrossFit is the power it has to teach people to start believing in their capabilities and to build their self-confidence. For her, the best part of coaching is being able to instill that value and belief into members.

    FAQ

    Each session will last approximately one hour. It will begin with a short warm-up including mobility work to increase flexibility. You will then be instructed on the Workout of the Day (WOD). The WOD will include a strength building movements that will enable you to focus on technique while building your strength. After the strength building movements, members will complete a metabolic conditioning (METCON) workout that compete the anaerobic session of the day. Members will then have time to "cool down" with stretching, light rowing, etc. On top of all this, you can expect to have fun. Everyone will be completing the same WOD at the same time. You will experience the community as well as the competition of CrossFit.
    CrossFit will make you stronger, faster, more coordinated and balanced. CrossFit can be used as part of a regimen to lose weight; however diet and lifestyle changes must also be incorporated to get the best results. Simple "weight loss" is not our primary goal; instead, we focus on improving body composition by reducing body fat and increasing lean muscle mass.
    Each and every one of our exercises is 100% scalable. We will accommodate your fitness level, from couch potato to professional athlete, as well as work with injuries and physical limitations.

    We want you to get a feel for the box and staff. A great way to do this is by attending one of our free introduction to CrossFit classes held on Saturday mornings. If you feel like CrossFit is a good choice for you, we will then ask you to attend our On Ramp – Foundations classes where you will learn how to correctly and efficiently perform the base CrossFit movements. This is an important because it will help to prevent injuries caused by bad form and technique, and it will also enable you to get the most out of each WOD. Once you complete our On Ramp – Foundations course, you'll be ready to jump into our member WODs.
